Tearsmith follows Nica, a traumatized teen who ages out of an abusive orphanage and is finally adopted into a loving family, only to find that her new 'brother' is Rigel, a brooding boy from the same orphanage with whom she shares a tangled history of fear and fascination. As they're forced to share a home, their old hostility slowly twists into an intense, forbidden attraction, even as both struggle with the psychological scars of their childhood. The story is steeped in dark fairy-tale imagery, built around the legend of the mysterious 'Tearsmith' who forges people's fears, and traces the couple's halting path toward trust and healing.
