A nameless young photographer and a dancer meet in a South East London pub and slowly fall in love over the course of a year, bonding over music, art, and their shared experience of being young and Black in Britain. Told entirely in intimate second-person narration, the novel traces how trauma, grief, and the ever-present threat of police violence and racial profiling put pressure on the couple's tenderness and ability to stay open with one another. It's less plot-driven than a lyrical, fragmented meditation on vulnerability, masculinity, and what it means to truly be seen by another person.
