Set in 1997, this literary novel follows Casey Peabody, a thirty-one-year-old aspiring writer waiting tables in Massachusetts while grieving her mother's sudden death and carrying crushing student debt. As she works to finish the novel she's labored over for years, she finds herself drawn to two very different men, an older widowed novelist and a younger fellow writer, while also wrestling with a health scare and her own fears about what it means to commit to art and to love. It's a quietly funny, emotionally rich coming-of-age story about the messy transition out of a prolonged youth.
