The Demon of the House of Hua

Maria Ying

Book 2 of Those Who Break Chains

A gothic F/NB novelette set in the world of the Those Who Break Chains series, following a grieving widow named Madhuri who must share her household — and the raising of her young daughter — with the demon whose bargain cost her wife's life. As Madhuri navigates loss and suspicion, she slowly discovers unexpected tenderness in the very creature she has tried to avoid. It's a quieter, more intimate entry in the series than its action-heavy counterparts, focused on healing, found family, and a slow-building romance between a human woman and a demonic being.
