Set in the Elfhame world years after Holly Black's Folk of the Air trilogy, this story follows Suren (Wren), a traumatized changeling queen who was once raised among humans, and Oak, the charming but manipulative fae prince she was once promised to marry. When Oak shows up needing her help on a dangerous quest north, Wren must decide whether to trust him again while guarding secrets about who she really is. The book is told from Wren's perspective and builds toward a twist-filled, unresolved ending that sets up the second half of the duology.
