A semi-autobiographical coming-of-age novel following nineteen-year-old Juliet Milagros Palante, a Puerto Rican lesbian from the Bronx, as she comes out to her family and spends a summer interning in Portland, Oregon for a white feminist author she idolizes. Over the course of the internship Juliet grapples with the gaps and blind spots in mainstream white feminism, falls for a local librarian, and finds a found family of queer people of color who help her build real self-acceptance. It's a character- and idea-driven story more focused on identity, race, and feminism than on plot.
