Next to Never is a novella in Penelope Douglas's Fall Away series, narrated by teenage Quinn Caruthers, who anonymously receives a manuscript that unravels the hidden, turbulent history of her parents' relationship. As she reads, Quinn starts to question her own long-held feelings for Lucas Morrow, an older family friend her overprotective brothers consider off-limits. The novella weaves Quinn's present-day awakening together with the unfolding story of her parents' rocky past, serving as a bridge between the original Fall Away couples and the next generation of characters.
