A human woman named Ivy, one of the few survivors of a failed colony ship, is discovered deep in an alien jungle by Ketahn, a spider-like hunter who has been avoiding his own queen's attempt to claim him. As the two learn to communicate and survive together, an undeniable bond forms between them even though Ivy is nothing like his own kind. The story blends slow-building romance with world-building around an alien insectoid society and its political dangers, ending on a cliffhanger that pushes straight into the next book.
