A young San Francisco journalist named Reuben Golding is attacked and bitten while visiting a remote coastal mansion, and soon discovers he is transforming into a powerful wolf-like being. As he grapples with his new predatory instincts and surprising capacity for heroism, he becomes the center of a media frenzy as the mysterious 'Man Wolf,' all while uncovering a hidden lineage of ancient shapeshifters. The novel blends gothic atmosphere, philosophical musings on good and evil, and a budding romance with the complications of Reuben's double life.
