A closed-door Victorian romance about Meg Burton-Smythe, the shy, stammering daughter of a man who despises the neighboring Beresford family, and Ivo Beresford, the idealistic, forward-thinking son of that rival family. After Ivo rescues Meg from a riding accident, the two strike up a secret friendship that slowly deepens into love even as their parents' decades-old feud threatens to keep them apart. The story eventually takes the couple to Bath as old grudges, family obligations, and Meg's difficult home life come to a head.
