Rainbow Rowell

Set in a newspaper office at the turn of the millennium, this debut novel follows Lincoln, an introverted IT 'internet security' employee whose job is to flag inappropriate work emails. Instead of reporting two coworkers, Beth and Jennifer, for violating email policy, he becomes absorbed in their funny, candid correspondence about love, marriage, and friendship, and slowly falls for Beth without her knowing he exists. It's a quirky, nostalgic romantic comedy told largely through Lincoln's perspective interspersed with the women's emails. The story builds toward Lincoln finding the courage to step out from behind the screen and into Beth's real life.
