Yumi and the Nightmare Painter

Brandon Sanderson

A standalone Cosmere novel narrated by the recurring character Hoid, following Yumi, who spends her life in rigid service summoning helpful spirits for her people, and Painter, who fights monstrous nightmares in a dark, technological city. The two are mysteriously bound together across their very different worlds and must learn each other's skills and lives while uncovering the truth behind the danger threatening both societies. It is a slow-building, emotionally driven romance wrapped around a mystery about art, identity, and freedom from rigid tradition.
