Lover Forbidden is the 23rd main entry in J.R. Ward's long-running Black Dagger Brotherhood paranormal romance series, centering on Lyric, daughter of series veterans Qhuinn and Blay, and a mysterious stranger named Devlin who saves her life one night in Caldwell. As the two are drawn together despite his secrecy about who (or what) he really is, their romance unfolds against the backdrop of vampire aristocratic politics and the Brotherhood's hunt for a traitor in their ranks. The book is told across several characters' perspectives and ties into the series' ongoing war with the Lessening Society.
