Weapons scientist Dr. Finley Delgado is racing to finish a laser defense weapon that could save Earth from the insectoid Kantos invasion, but deadly assassins are sent to stop her. Eon Security Commander Sabin Solann-Ath is assigned to protect her, and the two guarded, work-obsessed people are forced into close quarters as the danger escalates. As they fight off the Kantos together, both must confront painful pasts that have convinced them they aren't worthy of love. It's a fast-paced blend of sci-fi action and a slow-building alien romance set largely on Earth rather than in space.
